Quiet Preparations

It was very early in the morning that I rose today, as it was a more special day than usual. The babes were waking up in their nursery, little noses peeping out from under blankets and tiny yawns greeting the cool morning air. The shifting of blankets was heard quietly, more tiny yawns with big stretches from little babes getting ready for the day.

I silently made my way out of bed, not missing that my mate snuggled into the hot spot I had just vacated. Her nose buried into my pillow, curling right up and staying there with soft purrs. It was no secret that my love was not a morning person, but I was doing my best to make sure that she did not rise extra early with me.

Padding silently down the hall and out into their nursery, I greeted all of my babes softly, closing the door to help make sure that no noises would make their way through the Keep. I cared for a great number of babes, as Gwenhyfar had agreed to adopt the Orphans with me… Well over forty, but thankfully the number was less than the sixty-five it had been some months ago. More families were adopting the little ones now that they found peace and stability. Although was had formally adopted the remaining babes into our family, we were also open to letting the babes choose families for themselves if they so desired. Several little ones were eyeing some couples on Eska, hoping but still too shy to take the plunge and ask.

Breakfast time was a simple affair, the babes arranging themselves in proper order of age to get milk. I spent about an hour nursing and rubbing full little bellies that thankfully shrank my own down to a manageable size. The little ones got themselves dressed and faces scrubbed before they were lined up and ready for their missions!

We all crept down the hall quietly as possible. Thankfully the Keep had sensed our secrecy and muted the soft sounds further. The babes and I filed out of the Keep and onto Eska, creeping through to the crafting and play room of the babes. Getting out the needed supplies I had taken down in a list a few days ago, we began to craft… With so many little hands working it was easy to finish in another hour; I loaded up all the finished products carefully into a tote to carry later. After that was done the babes began to work on cards, each little one putting much thought and care into what they would like to say. Thankfully Raven had joined me to help them with writing…I was still learning how to read more complex books other than the story books for the babes, and I could not write.

After our decorations and cards were finished, it was out to the gardens. The babes made sure to work together to pick some flowers, fruit, and vegetables very carefully. Nothing was over-harvested, and the bouquets were made thoughtfully with the stems kept long. One crew of babes went around with a watering can to repay the plants they had picked from. In babe logic, it was only fair to give something back in trade for taking the flowers and food. I wrapped the long stems of the flowers in damp towels to keep them fresh for the vases.

Wandering back into the kitchen, little hands were washed as I organized the babes once again into crews for tasks. They had come up with a menu all on their own, each mini crew working on their individual tasks. The only thing I really helped with was getting the ingredients from the higher places, cutting things, and making sure that nobody burned themselves working with the hot stove and oven. When everything was complete, my babes waited patiently for me to help them plate for presentation. I used a little bit of non-burning fire to make sure each item was kept at the proper temperature. Gathering up the foods, tote, cards, and flowers, we made our way back into the Keep…

I peeked in on Gwenhyfar to make sure she was still asleep…. Yes, thankfully she had not done more than rolled to her other side in the time we were gone. Going to the kitchen, I settled the food on the counter and in the fridge to wait the proper time. The babes had opened up the tote and were surprised to find it empty! I smiled and patted a wall affectionately. The Keep had done us another favor by putting the decorations up silently where they were needed… I would be giving the floor a good waxing and the windows a proper washing in thanks later.

We waited until it was a good hour in the morning, the babes playing quietly to keep themselves amused. When it was time, we crept silently down the hall and into the bedroom… Babes carefully climbed up the bed and cuddled up to Gwenhyfar… Lots of little purrs started, the babes happy and excited. In a matter of minutes every babe was purring quietly in her direction.

Blue eyes slowly opened, unable to resist the curiosity of why there were so many purrs around her… Blue lips stretched into a warm smile as she got a good look at the babes snuggling on the huge bed. A pale blue blush brightened her cheeks as her eyes went wide taking in the flowers, cards, and decorations in the bedroom. Bright smiling little faces were all looking to her, tiny tails twitching excitedly in most cases.

“Happy Mother’s Day!” Was chorused by all of the babes.

I leaned down and kissed her lips softly.

“Happy Mother’s Day, my love.”
This is a gift for my best friend Lady-Blue-Rose.

Riley was feeling extra fluffy early on today, so this is what he came up with :D

To all the mamas out there... HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!

All characters except for Gwenhyfar belong to myself. Gwenhyfar belongs to Blue.
